Advent Readings

First Sunday of Advent- The Hope Candle

O God of all the prophets, 
you herald the coming of the Messiah 
by wondrous signs in the heavens and on the earth. 
Grant us your advent hope so that we, 
in the company of your saints
and by the power of your Holy Spirit, 
may be found ready to participate in your living work 
as the coming of our redemption nears, 
this day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 

Second Sunday of Advent- The Love Candle

Out of the embrace of Your abundant mercy and righteousness, 
you have brought forth joy and dignity for your people, 
O Holy One of Israel. 
Remember now Your covenants with us: 
make straight the paths that lead us to you, 
and smooth the rough ways, 
that in our day 
we might bring your Kingdom here on earth
for all creation. Amen.

Third Sunday of Advent- The Joy Candle

O God of the exiles and the lost, 
you promise restoration and wholeness 
through the power of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name. 
Give us faith to dance, laugh, and live joyfully, 
sustained by your promises 
as we eagerly await the day when they will be fulfilled 
for all the world to see, 
through the coming of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Fourth Sunday of Advent- The Peace Candle

God of promise, 
you have given us the first fruits of our salvation 
through the gift of Jesus Christ, our Savior, 
who was promised from ages past. 
We believe as Mary did 
the good news of your Son 
whispered by an angel, 
and offer our prayers for your world, 
confident that your peace shall reign forever and ever. Amen.
