Our Roots Run Deep

Since 1894, we have been God’s hands and feet in the Bitterroot Valley

A Bit About Who We Are

Distinctly Methodist

The United Methodist Church is a global denomination that opens hearts, opens minds and opens doors through active engagement with our world.

John Wesley and today’s Methodists place primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action.

The Family of God.

To be in the family of God at Corvallis UMC means to be accepted for who we are: loved, cherished, and celebrated.

We gather as a diverse community to worship God, fellowship with one another, and spread the gospel of peace to all corners of the valley.

Christ’s Hands and Feet

Corvallis UMC is committed to being co-laborers with Christ to bring about transformation, reconciliation, and peace in the valley.

As a faith-in-action church, our work as Christians is as much spiritual as it is social.

It is our mission to be Christ’s hands and feet in the heart of the valley by seeking the transformation of lives and the flourishing of our community.

Open Doors and Open Hearts

Corvallis UMC has an open doors and open hearts policy.

We proudly voted to remain United Methodist as it seeks to be a more inclusive and welcoming church. People of all ages, races, ethnicities, genders, sexualities, and abilities are welcome and affirmed.

Each of us has a song to sing in God’s great chorus of praise.

Transformed by Worship.

At Corvallis UMC our worship of Jesus the Messiah informs who we are.

Jesus feasted with the marginalized, restored broken lives, challenged the hypocrisy of religious authority, and undermined the pillars of empire.

Our worship informs both our “yes” and our “no.”

Stewards of the Earth.

Corvallis UMC believes it is our responsibility to support and build a more ecologically equitable world.

All creation is the Lord’s, and we are responsible for the ways in which we use and abuse it.

Our natural world must be valued and conserved because God has called humanity its stewards and caretakers.

Where the South meets the Bitterroot

Meet Reverend Dexter Ware

I grew up in both Jackson and Crystal Springs, MS.  Jackson being the capital and Crystal Springs a vibrant country town gave me the experience of learning to rub elbows with both city and country folks. I prefer country due to my love for agriculture. I enjoy pastoring and pasturing!

In 1973 I entered college as a Veterinary Science major. I love raising cattle and growing plants.  I raised cattle while in High School and College. Later I operated an Organic Farm.  However, the Lord had other plans and here I am in the Bitterroot after serving as a pastor; teacher and chaplain since 1978!

I love Montana and particularly the Bitterroot, its people and country side.  I am a country boy at heart.  The cold weather is okay especially since we are in the banana belt!

I am blessed to pastor Corvallis United Methodist Church. We are a group of Christians who are a “work in progress”!  We do seek to follow Jesus’s command to, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength and your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39

These verses help to ground me and keep me on track. We praise God for the great gift of His love and grace and seek to be faithful disciples of Jesus.
